This is a re-enactment of internationally renowned Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s seminal work Rosas danst Rosas originally created in 1983. This version is inspired by the invitation from Keersmaeker to re-enact her choreography via her online archive Re: Rosas! The fABULUES Rosas Remix Project. With this performance the University of Florida School of Theatre + Dance steps onto the international stage and becomes the 680th cast of Rosas to embody this work.

In 1997 Thierry De Mey filmed Rosas danst Rosas in an old technical school in Leuven.

On 24th June 2013 Rosas & fABULEUS invited you to create your own version of Rosas Danst Rosas.

The Creator

In 1980, after studying dance at Maurice Bejart’s Mudra School in Brussels and NYU Tisch School of the Arts in New York, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker created Asch, her first choreographic work. Two years later came the premiere of Fase, Four Movements to the Music of Steve Reich. De Keersmaeker established the dance company Rosas in Brussels in 1983, while creating the work Rosas danst Rosas. Since these breakthrough pieces, her choreography has been grounded in a rigorous and prolific exploration of the relationship between dance and music. She has created with Rosas a wide-ranging body of work engaging the musical structures and scores of several periods, from early music to contemporary and popular idioms. Her choreographic practice also draws its formal principles from geometry, numerical patterns, the natural world, and social structures to offer a unique perspective on the body’s articulation in space and time...

Rehearsal asst.

CHAR’DONAI’ BROOKS (Rehearsal Assistant) is from Southern California. She imprinted herself on Florida’s soil in August 2020 bringing alongside her human, Kailah. “Much of the piece is improvisation based off of the set material so the piece is different each time. It has been so fun to work with my peers live not knowing what was going to happen next. The piece is unpredictable and experimental each time."
